Spotify's Discover Weekly nailed my mood 4 weeks straight and now I feel weird about my own taste
Back in late April I started keeping a little note on my phone every Monday when the new playlist dropped. Week 1 it gave me three songs I'd never heard from bands I now play daily. Week 2 same thing. By week 4 I was like wait, how does it know I wanted sad guitar stuff on a Tuesday more than I did?
The weird part is I didn't tell it anything. No thumbs down, no skipping. It just read my 2am listens and built a little version of me. And honestly that version is better at picking music than I am now. That bugs me.
Last Monday I caught myself waiting for the playlist instead of going to find new stuff on my own. Like I outsourced a small piece of my brain to an app and didn't notice for a month.
Curious if this hits anyone else. Do you still discover music on your own, or has the algorithm become your friend who knows you too well?
