Swapped my map app to the open source one after a weird detour last week

I was using Google Maps to get to a doctor's appointment in Portland and it rerouted me through a construction zone that didn't exist... made me 20 minutes late. So I switched to OSMAnd for a week and it's been way more honest about road closures. Has anyone else switched off the big one and noticed less weird routing?

Wait, didn't I used to be the guy saying "Google knows best" every single time? I was totally in that camp until I got burned the same way you did. I was heading to a job site in Beaverton last month and Google tried to put me through a neighborhood that had been completely closed off with concrete barriers for three weeks. The open source map I tried actually had the detour marked. It's not perfect, I ran into some missing addresses, but at least it's not sending me into imaginary construction zones. The big guys have gotten sloppy with their real time updates lately and it shows.

Open source maps sent me on a dirt road that wasn't even on Google.

Whoa, hold on. Google probably saved you from a road that actually fell apart, that open source app just didn't know about yet.
