Switched from algorithm picks to my own book list, and it's a relief
I always let Goodreads suggest what to read next, but it felt like being in a bubble of similar topics. Decided to just ask friends for recommendations instead, and my reading feels fresh again. Taking that little step back from the machine has really helped my mood.

Tried letting Spotify run my music for a month and it kept suggesting the same gloomy indie folk. Finally asked my coworker for her workout playlist, and now I'm listening to energetic Afrobeat stuff I'd never find on my own. That shift just makes everything feel less stale, you know? It's like the algorithm only knows one version of you, but people see the whole picture. My mood totally lifted after just one bike ride to those new tunes.

I read a study last month about algorithms locking people into one music style. Your coworker's playlist @elizabethmason is a smart fix for that. I found new punk bands from a friend and it really shook up my routine.

Change your tunes and algorithms adapt, @stella298.

Read about how those recommendation engines just recycle popular titles. They ignore smaller authors, so you never break out of the same few genres. A librarian told me people who switch to hand-picked lists often discover more varied stuff. Makes total sense after feeling stuck in my own reading rut.
