Threw $40 at a browser extension that blocks algorithmic feeds and now I actually read articles instead of doomscrolling.
Installed the 'DF Tube' extension for $0 last week and it strips out the recommended videos on YouTube, but the $40 one I bought for Twitter kills the trending tab and suggested posts completely, anyone else paying to hide algorithms?

Wait, people are actually paying for this stuff? I had no idea there was a whole market for hiding algorithms, I thought everyone just used free adblockers or something. That's wild to me that someone would drop forty bucks just to stop seeing trending posts. But honestly? After reading your post, I kind of get it. Free stuff breaks all the time when sites update, so at least with a paid extension you might get actual support. Still feels like paying someone to tie your shoes for you though.

Honestly, I think the real hidden cost isn't the $40 but the weird social friction it creates. I use a similar setup and now when friends send me a viral tweet or a trending YouTube video, I have no clue what they're talking about because none of that stuff shows up for me anymore. It makes me feel kinda out of the loop in conversations, but I guess that's the tradeoff for actually reading the manual instead of just the highlights.
