Trying to fix my feed after one dumb search took 3 days
Honestly, I searched for one pair of hiking boots on my phone last Tuesday. Ngl, for the next 72 hours my entire feed was just boots, outdoor gear ads, and weird survivalist videos. I tried clearing my history, liking normal stuff, everything. It felt like the algorithm had me pinned as some boot-obsessed prepper. Has anyone else had to basically perform an exorcism on their recommendations after one innocent click?

Boot-obsessed prepper" does sound a bit dramatic for an ad.

Well, my closet full of hiking boots and emergency canned goods might disagree with you there. Gotta be ready for a sudden mountain hike or a surprise bean shortage, you know? The ad copywriter might have been peeking in my windows.

Honestly used to think that kind of ad was just making fun of people. Then my power went out for three days last winter and my one can of soup felt pretty pathetic. Now I see a closet full of beans as just being smart, not weird. Guess the ad writer knows their audience better than I thought.

Okay but what if the ad writer just saw someone's "nice day for a hike" boots next to their "nice day for the end of the world" boots and got confused. Like, one pair is for mud, the other is for, I don't know, trading for gas after society falls. It's a fine line.
