Hitting 100k words in my alternate history novel surprised me
I've been writing a story where the Library of Alexandria never burned, and I just crossed 100,000 words last night. It mattered because I honestly thought I'd quit after the first draft got stuck around chapter 4. Has anyone else found that specific milestones keep you going when the story stalls?

Read some advice from a published author who said the 100k word mark is where your brain FINALLY accepts you're writing a real novel. They talked about it like a mental shift where the stalled parts stop feeling like roadblocks and start looking like puzzles to solve. Honestly made me think about how much of writing is just getting past your own head.
