The Roman Senate's Emoji Vote Took Me 4 Trys to Explain
I was at a dinner party in Austin last month, and someone asked what if the Roman Republic had adopted a sort of early texting system. I spent 45 minutes trying to explain that carving pigeons with smiley faces would've changed election results, but everyone just stared at me. Then I realized I was arguing with a guy dressed as a gladiator, which made me question my whole hobby. Finally, I drew a chart on a napkin showing how the Ides of March could've been a group chat gone wrong. Has anyone else spent way too long defending a silly what-if at a party and just given up mid-sentence?
