TIL using a dishwasher instead of handwashing saved me 15 gallons of water a day

I tested both methods for a week with the same load of dishes and the dishwasher used way less water, but only if you don't prerinse everything first has anyone else noticed the difference with their own setup?

Who knew my dishwasher was secretly an environmental activist this whole time? I bet it's also out there solving world hunger while I'm not looking. Did you try running it without any detergent just to see what happens?

And honestly that's kind of how most "green" products feel these days, like we're all supposed to pat ourselves on the back for buying something that barely works while the real pollution happens somewhere else. Companies love to shift the guilt onto us so we forget they're the ones making mountains of plastic packaging in the first place. It's just another way we're all expected to fix big problems with tiny, useless gestures.
