Warning: people keep mixing up the fall of the Roman Empire timeline

I keep seeing posts where folks say the Roman Empire fell in 476 AD and that is just wrong for the Eastern half. The Byzantine Empire lasted until 1453 when Constantinople fell to the Ottomans. I know this because I spent a summer reading a book series on Byzantine history and it blew my mind how much they kept going. It matters because when you talk about what if the empire never fell you need to pick which empire you mean. Has anyone else noticed this mistake popping up in discussions?

Yeah the Byzantine navy held off sieges for centuries before 1453.

People really get worked up about this stuff, huh? I'm with @karen_sanchez49 about the navy but does it matter if someone mixes up a date from 1500 years ago? Seems like a pretty small detail in the grand scheme of things.
