What if the Mongols had actually taken Western Europe in 1241? Two sides of this and I can't pick one
A guy at my local library in Omaha handed me a book on the Mongol invasion of Hungary and it got me thinking about a timeline where Batu Khan pushes past the Battle of Mohi into Vienna and the Rhineland. One side says Europe gets wrecked but ends up with a bigger trade network and no Dark Ages holdover, while the other side says it just means a khanate running things for 200 years and no Renaissance. I keep going back and forth on whether the 1242 death of Ogedei was the only thing that saved the continent or if the Mongols were already stretched too thin. Where do you all land on this?
