Always brushed off those 'anime pacing is bad' complaints until I watched the One Piece live action and realized the source material really could be trimmed down

After binge watching the whole thing in one weekend and comparing it to the Fishman Island arc that took me like 40 episodes, I'm actually wondering how many other long running shows would benefit from a tighter edit - has anyone else had a similar flip on a show they used to defend?

Wait, weren't you defending the pacing last week?

That's a good question, have you ever noticed how the same thing happens with stuff we do every day? Like I used to defend my old commute because "it gave me time to listen to podcasts" but then I moved closer to work and realized I was just making excuses for wasting an hour in traffic. Same with meal prepping, I'd say I liked cooking everything on Sunday but really I was just used to the routine of it. It's kinda wild how we build up habits and defenses for things that could be way simpler if we just stepped back and looked at them fresh. One Piece is just the anime version of that, I guess.

Wait, @blair_taylor32, isn't that part of the problem though? Like we get so used to defending something that we don't even see the cracks anymore. I did the SAME thing with my morning coffee routine. Used to insist on grinding beans and using a French press every day, said it was "part of the ritual." Then I bought a cheap drip machine and realized I was just making 15 minutes of extra work for no reason. One Piece pacing is exactly that. You defend the 200 episodes of filler arcs because "it builds the world" but really you're just used to the slog.
