Appreciation post: Comparing Crunchyroll subs vs fansubs for one specific show changed my whole viewing habit

After watching the first 3 episodes of the latest Gundam series on Crunchyroll then switching to a fansub group for episode 4, the difference in how they handled military terminology was night and day, so has anyone else found a show where the official subs just felt flat compared to fan work?

Funny you bring that up. It's like how people who work on their own cars will notice a shop just slapped on the wrong bolt vs taking the time to find the exact one. The official subs get it "close enough" but the fansub guys are the ones who actually respect the material. I've noticed this same pattern everywhere lately. People cutting corners because they think nobody will notice the difference, but someone always does. It's just a matter of who cares enough to do it right versus who's just punching a clock.

Wait till you see what happens with food packaging. @parker_palmer44 nailed it with that car bolt thing. Had a bag of chips the other day, seal was barely half done, air practically pouring out. Small batch brands seal those bags like they're locking up Fort Knox. Big companies just want it off the line, done. Same with software updates. Indie devs patch bugs in hours, big studios leave game-breaking glitches for months.
