Appreciation post: That old CRT monitor I fixed for $3

Found a Sony Trinitron at a garage sale last Saturday for $10. Plugged it in and got a weird high-pitched whine. Opened it up careful-like and found a cracked solder joint on the flyback transformer. Fixed it with a $3 soldering iron tip. Anyone else still messing with old tech for retro anime viewing?

Fixed a similar whine by reseating the neck board.

Is it really that big of a deal though? A little whine from a neck board doesn't seem like the end of the world to me. I've had a slight hum on my amp for years and it just adds character. @the_linda i get that it might bug you, but calling it "fixed" like it was broken feels a bit dramatic. I'd probably just turn the volume up and forget about it.
