Dub over sub is actually fine, fight me

I watched Cowboy Bebop in English first, then tried the Japanese version everyone swears by. It just didn't hit the same for me. Steve Blum's Spike is full of attitude, while the original felt flat in comparison. Has anyone else stuck with a dub and felt like you got more out of the show?

The Cowboy Bebop dub is one of those rare cases where it genuinely elevates the material. Steve Blum put so much personality into Spike that it's hard to separate the character from his voice. You're not wrong for preferring it, especially since most dubs back then were pretty rough. Sometimes the original Japanese audio just doesn't capture the same rhythm or cool factor that a well-casted English version can. If you ever watch Trigun, give the English dub a shot too, it has that same kind of charm.

Hold up @sage308, Steve Blum didn't voice Spike in the Bebop dub, that was David Lucas, who went by Beau Billingslea at the time. Steve Blum was actually Jet Black, the big gruff guy with the cyborg arm. Easy mixup since Blum has that iconic voice that's in everything these days. Still solid advice on Trigun though, that dub really nails the western vibe they were going for.
