Finally visited the anime store on 5th Ave and it had a whole wall of Ghibli cell art

I walked in expecting just some figures and manga but that framed watercolor from My Neighbor Totoro stopped me in my tracks for a solid 10 minutes, has anyone else found a hidden gem like that in a random shop?

You mean the watercolor from Totoro? That exact kind of unexpected find is why I still go into random shops on a whim." What was the price on it? Ive seen some of those cell art prints go for crazy money depending on the scene and how official the piece is. Was it hand-painted or one of the limited lithographs?

Honestly that's always the gamble, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes it's just a poster.

That Totoro piece sounds like it hit you the same way I got stopped cold by a random Spirited Away print in a dusty little shop down near the wharf... The lady running the place had no idea what she had, it was a hand-painted cel from the river scene with Haku, still in its original frame with the studio seal on the back. I stood there for like 20 minutes just staring at the brushstrokes in the water while she kept asking if I needed help picking out a keychain... It was totally surreal finding something that authentic buried under a stack of old manga volumes and pokemon cards.
