I finally noticed how much better anime looks after switching from subs to dubs
I used to swear by subs for everything, but I gave dubs a shot last month with Attack on Titan season 2. The voice acting is way more expressive than I thought, and I actually caught background details I missed before because I was reading. Anyone else make the switch and notice a big difference in how you follow the story?

Oh man, I get what you're saying but for me it was the complete opposite. I switched from dubs to subs a few years back and now I can't go back. I was watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dubbed and the voices just felt off to me, like the emotions didn't match the scenes. Switched to subs and suddenly the characters felt more real and intense. But I gotta admit, with slower shows like slice of life stuff, dubs are fine because you're not missing much action anyway.

Subs vs dubs usually comes down to the specific show and the dub quality. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood's dub is actually one of the better ones, but I hear you on certain scenes where the emotion just doesn't land. A good trick is to watch a show subbed first, then check out a few clips dubbed to see if the voice actors match the characters for you. Saves you from wasting hours on a bad dub.

You're talking about "the emotions didn't match the scenes" and honestly I think people overthink this way too much. I mean it's just a cartoon at the end of the day, not like we're watching a Shakespeare play where one wrong inflection ruins the whole thing. If the dub is decent and you can follow what's happening, does it really matter that much?
