I finally took a buddy's advice on pacing in anime
A guy in a watch party told me I was skipping intros and missing the build-up on slow episodes. So I stopped skipping anything for one whole season of Vinland Saga and actually felt the tension way more. Has anyone else had their viewing habits flipped by a random comment from a friend?

Oh man, @michael669 nailed it with that vegetables before dessert thing. It's the same with books too, I used to skip descriptions until I realized the author put them there for a reason. Now I see it everywhere, like how people skip the first ten minutes of a movie and then complain nothing makes sense. Or how everyone fast forwards through the opening credits of a TV show but then misses the little details that come back later. It's like we all got trained to want instant gratification and forgot that the slow stuff is what makes the payoff actually hit.

Told my friend the same thing about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I used to skip the first two episodes because everyone said Part 1 was boring, but my friend made me sit through all of it. He was right though, because without that slow start the whole Dio rivalry doesn't hit as hard later on. Now I force myself to watch the first cour of everything before I decide to drop it. Sometimes the best payoff comes from the episodes you want to skip the most. It's like eating your vegetables before dessert, you gotta trust the process.

Agree 100%, man. I had almost the same thing with Attack on Titan, kept hearing the first arc was slow but my buddy told me to just get through it so I did and now it's one of my all time faves. Its wild how much you miss out on when you try to skip the "boring" setup stuff.
