I started watching subs after a friend called me out
I only watched dubbed anime for years because I liked to multitask while watching. Then a buddy at work said I was missing half the emotion by not hearing the original voice actors. Has anyone else made the switch and found it changed how you connect with certain shows?

Nah, I can't focus on the visuals if I'm reading the whole time lol.

Honestly you just gotta power through the first episode or two, your brain figures out the rhythm faster than you'd expect lol. It helps to watch shows you've already seen dubbed first, that way you're not stressed about missing plot while your eyes learn to bounce between the action and the subs. After a week of doing that I couldn't go back, the voice acting is just way more real.

Your friend is totally right about missing half the emotion. I switched to subs for Attack on Titan and the original Japanese voice acting made scenes hit way harder than the English dub ever did. It takes a few episodes to get used to reading and watching at the same time, but now I actually prefer subs even for shows I could watch dubbed.
