Just realized I was wrong about dubbed anime for years
I used to swear by subs only, thought dubs ruined the experience. Then I watched Cowboy Bebop on adult swim late one night and the English cast actually matched the characters way better than I expected. Any other former sub snobs come around on this?

Cowboy Bebop is the one that got me too, plus I realized I miss half the animation reading subs. If the dub is half decent it's worth giving a shot on a rewatch, you catch way more detail.

Oh man, I had that same problem with subs... I'd be so busy reading I'd miss the little facial expressions and background stuff. What finally worked for me was watching shows I already knew the story of, like a studio ghibli movie I'd seen a bunch of times, in the dub. That way I could focus on the animation without worrying I was missing anything. Once I got used to that, I went back to some of my favorite subbed shows and caught so many more details, like how the characters move during conversations or the little visual jokes in the background. It really changed how I watch stuff now.

Three years ago I would've argued subs were the only way to watch anime. Then I rewatched Cowboy Bebop with the dub and caught so much I missed the first time, like how Spike's fingers twitch before a fight or the old movie posters in the background of the bar. The dub is surprisingly solid too, the voices actually match the characters better than I expected. Now I try the dub first on anything new, only switch to subs if it's really bad.
