Overheard a guy at the comic shop say he watches anime on 1.5x speed and now I can't stop thinking about it

He said 'the scenes just drag otherwise' while checking out a Blu-ray box set of Cowboy Bebop, and it made me wonder if I'm wasting time on filler pacing or if he's missing the whole point of a directors cuts, anyone else actually try this and stick with it?

Watching anime at 1.5x speed is like reading a book and skipping every other page. You're just hitting the plot points without any of the atmosphere or emotion that makes it worth watching in the first place. Cowboy Bebop especially relies on those slow jazz moments and quiet character beats to build its whole vibe. Rushing through that is like speedrunning a good meal, you miss all the flavor. No disrespect to the guy, but that approach honestly feels like treating art like a chore to get through.

That would totally ruin the vibe for me.

Yo I used to think the same way honestly. But after seeing how it actually plays out in some situations, it kinda made me reconsider the whole thing. Now I get why people are cool with it.
