Pro tip: Dubbed vs subbed debate is older than me, but I finally cracked it

I used to be team sub all the way until I watched Cowboy Bebop dubbed last month and realized the voice actors actually nailed the vibe better. Now I'm torn - does the language matter less if the dub has good direction, or is sub always the pure experience? What's your rule for picking one over the other?

Had a buddy who swore by subs for years, then he watched the Ghost in the Shell dub at a con screening and said the voice for Batou made him actually like the character more than reading the lines ever did. He still goes sub for new shows but will check the dub if he hears the studio spent real money on casting. Said the sub vs dub thing is really about how much the English team cared, not the language itself.

Funny, I used to think subs were always better but Bebop and GitS dubs proved me wrong.

Wait, does that mean I have to watch the dubs I've been making fun of for the last ten years? Man, all that time I spent acting superior about subs just went out the window, lol.
