Question about the 'filler episode' talk in every anime chat

I keep seeing people call any slow episode 'filler' even when it's straight from the manga, like the recent camping episode in that new fantasy show. It matters because it spreads wrong info and makes new fans skip good character stuff. How do you politely correct someone when they're just wrong about what filler means?

That camping episode was in volume three.

Ruined the whole season" feels like a lot. It's just one episode out of order, right? Seems like a pretty big overreaction.

My buddy got the order wrong and watched that episode first. He said the jokes made no sense without the earlier setup. Kinda ruined the whole season for him.
