Stop telling new fans to skip the first 20 episodes of long shonen, you are ruining their watch
I keep seeing this advice in every thread about getting into One Piece or Naruto and it makes me mad every time. Last month my cousin in Reno asked me how to start One Piece and three people jumped in saying just skip to episode 30 or read a summary. That is 20 plus hours of stuff you are throwing away and you lose all the small moments that make the big fights land later. I know because I skipped ahead on Bleach back in 2019 and when the Soul Society arc hit I had no idea who half the captains were or why their losses mattered. Watch order lists and filler guides are fine but telling a new person to skip canon episodes is a different thing. The shows are long for a reason and the slow build is the whole point. What do you all do when a friend asks where to start, do you give them a skip list or just say watch it in order?
