Subbed purists roasted me for watching the dub of Mushishi

I rewatched Mushishi last summer with the English dub on a long flight to Chicago, and honestly the slower delivery fit the show's mood better than the Japanese track. My anime group called it a crime against art, but I stuck with it and noticed way more detail in the background art since I wasn't reading subtitles. Has anyone else felt a dub improved a quiet series, or am I just the weird one here?

Mushishi's dub is actually a common pick for best dubs, not a hot take, but the background art thing is a fair point.
