Tried watching the second season of that big popular mecha show everyone loves and I just can't get into it
Everyone on this sub kept saying how season 2 of Gundam: The Witch from Mercury was a masterpiece. I finished season 1 in two days and was hyped. But after 5 episodes of season 2, I feel like the pacing is all over the place and the character drama got too confusing. Learned that just because something is super popular doesn't mean it clicks for me personally. Anybody else drop a widely liked show halfway through?

I switched off Evangelion halfway through because I couldn't stand Shinji. Everyone called it a masterpiece but I just found the kid annoying. Picked up Code Geass a few months later and that one clicked way better. Sometimes you just gotta trust your gut and move on to something else.

Close, but Evangelion actually has 26 episodes, not 24 like a lot of people think.

Man I totally get what you're saying about "trust your gut." I actually read this article a while back that broke down why people either love or hate Shinji, and it made a lot of sense. It said that if you've ever dealt with heavy anxiety or depression, Shinji feels painfully real and relatable, but if you havent, he just comes off as a whiny brat. I think that's why Code Geass clicked better for you, since Lelouch is way more confident and driven, which is a cleaner power fantasy. Evangelion is more about making you uncomfortable and sitting in that misery, which isn't for everyone. I tried getting into it twice before it finally stuck with me, and even then I still wanted to shake Shinji half the time. But yeah, no shame in dropping something that isn't working for you.
