Unpopular opinion: dubs used to be fine until subtitles ruined me

I rewatched Cowboy Bebop dubbed with my buddy last weekend, and he kept pausing to point out how the English script actually changes whole jokes. That conversation got me thinking about how I spent 12 years watching only subs, so now every dub sounds fake to me, even the good ones. The weird part is I started with dubs on Toonami back in the early 2000s, and I never once complained about acting until I got used to reading. Is there anyone else who feels like a switch flipped in your brain after a certain show or moment, or am I just broken now?

Blame my old eyes, they read subs so much they forgot how to watch people talk.

Man, maybe it's the opposite for me, reading lips now makes me notice how dub mouths never match the words.
