Crashed my bike into a mailbox last week trying to wave at a neighbor, so I'm in no position to judge anyone's bike fail.

Two weeks ago I saw a guy at the intersection of Elm and 5th absolutely eat it while trying to do a quick turn to avoid a puddle. He didn't even hit anything, just went down sideways like a cartoon character. It made me realize how we're all just one small distraction away from looking like total fools on two wheels. The neighbor wave, the puddle dodge, the quick glance at a phone - it's like the universe is waiting for us to get too comfortable and then pulls the rug out.

...and that's what gets me, Seth. The whole "wave at a neighbor" thing. Did you actually make eye contact before you waved, or was it one of those automatic waves you do without thinking? Because I feel like that's the real trap - when your body goes into autopilot mode and you forget you're still on a bike that needs both hands. It's just interesting to me how much we rely on muscle memory until it fails us. Were you embarrassed more by the crash itself or the fact that you probably looked like a total dork in front of someone you see regularly?
