Chose the wrong apology letter and mailed it anyway last Tuesday

I had to pick between apologizing for my snarky comment at the meeting or explaining why I was actually right about the budget numbers. I went with the apology letter but it came off fake and now my coworker Jane from accounting won't look at me. Has anyone else sent an apology that made things worse instead of better?

Oh man, I've been there. Just go talk to her in person and say the letter was awkward because you were trying not to make things worse, and that you really do value her input. A quick face to face chat can fix way more than a thousand words on paper.

Did you try just saying "hey, that letter came out wrong" and laughing it off with her?

I mean, @patricia_gonzalez has a point about face to face, but laughing off a written note feels like it could backfire.
