Hit 10 years in my old apartment last week and never said sorry to the neighbor below

I hit the decade mark in my unit on Wednesday and it hit me that I never apologized to Mrs. Garcia for all those nights I dropped things or moved furniture at 2am. She moved out about 3 years ago after her hip surgery and I just waved at her in the hallway like nothing happened. I remember one time I dropped a cast iron pan and heard her yell through the floor. I should have knocked on her door the next day but I was too awkward and figured it was fine. Has anyone else let a chance to apologize slip by until it was too late?

Mrs. Garcia definitely remembers that cast iron pan drop.

@sethm46 is right, it's wild how we let small apologies pile up into a whole pattern of avoiding awkward moments.

A cast iron pan at 2am is rough but you're overthinking this. She probably forgot about it by the next morning.

Nah, disagree hard. "Forgot about it by the next morning" - you don't drop a cast iron pan at 2am and just forget that happened. @sethm46 is right. That sound echoes through the whole house, wakes people up. Mrs. Garcia definitely remembers the clatter and probably the exact spot she dropped it. She might not bring it up, but that pan's on her mind.
