I read a sticky note in a library book that said sorry to someone I've never met
Last Tuesday I grabbed a used copy of a John Grisham book from the free cart at my library in Boise and a yellow sticky note fell out of page 148. It was a half apology, just a few lines, signed "sorry I missed your recital, I was scared to show up." No name, no date, nothing else. I sat in my car in the parking lot for like 20 minutes just holding it. It hit me weird because I've got a stack of apology notes in a drawer at home that I wrote to my old roommate after we stopped talking in 2021, and I never dropped any of them off. This stranger's note got closer to a mailbox than mine ever did, and it still never made it. So this week I finally typed one of mine up and mailed it, which sounds small but my hands were sweaty at the blue box. Has anyone else ever mailed one years late, and did the person actually respond?
