I still think about telling my college roommate I was sorry for breaking her favorite mug in 2012.

I pretended it got lost in a move, but I saw the pieces in the trash can behind our dorm in Boulder and never said a word.

Honestly a mug from 2008? That's a sixteen year old debt. Tbh it feels like if they really wanted it back they would've said something by now. Ngl it's probably not that big of a deal to them anymore.

Yeah it's wild how many little things like that just become permanent fixtures in your life. I've got a book from a friend's mom that I borrowed in like 2010, and at this point it's just part of my shelf. After a few years it stops being a borrowed item and just turns into your stuff, lol.

I used to think keeping a borrowed book for years was no big deal. Then my friend asked about a specific cookbook her grandma gave her that I'd had since 2015. The look on her face when she described the notes in the margins made me feel awful. I mailed it back the next day. Some things aren't just stuff, they're memories you're holding for someone.
