Just realized my old roommate probably heard me complain about her to my mom on the phone

I was cleaning out a box from my college apartment in Tempe and found a note she left on my desk. It said 'hope your day gets better' from April 2012. I remember being on a really loud call that week venting about her cooking smells, and her room was right next to mine. The note makes sense now, and I feel awful I never said sorry for being so petty. Has anyone else pieced together a missed apology years later?

Well at least she was nice about it. My old roommate would have just started cooking fish again.

Honestly, being nice about it is the bare minimum. My friend in college had a roommate who cooked fish every single Tuesday. It was her apartment too, and she paid the same rent. People have a right to cook their own food in their own home. If a smell bothers you that much, maybe you need to live alone.

Man, that hits hard. Finding that note years later is such a gut punch. It's wild how these little moments of guilt can come back to us way later. I've definitely had a few of those realizations myself, and they stick with you.
