Question about that apology I owe my brother after the fishing trip

Last summer I took my brother out on Lake Michigan near Sturgeon Bay and totally blew up at him because he dropped my good rod overboard. I wrote a letter apologizing but never sent it because I told myself he'd just shrug it off anyway. Now I keep thinking maybe a real apology would help fix the distance between us, but it's been 14 months and I don't know if bringing it up is worse. Has anyone actually sent a late apology and had it go okay?

The thing about "he'd just shrug it off anyway" is you might be right about him shrugging off the rod, but that's not really what you're apologizing for. You're apologizing for blowing up at him, for making him feel like crap for a simple accident. That's the part that sticks. I had a buddy who waited two years to apologize to his sister for yelling at her during a road trip, and when he finally did she cried because she thought he just didn't care anymore. A late apology doesn't fix the fishing rod, but it fixes the silence. Send the letter, man.

Wait, hold up @blair_taylor32, your buddy waited two YEARS to say sorry about a road trip yelling? That's insane. I mean, I get holding a grudge for a week or two if you're stubborn, but two years is like forgetting you have a sister for a while. That story about her crying because she thought he didn't care hits hard though, makes you realize how long silence can mess with someone. Feels like the fishing rod guy should just rip the bandaid off before it turns into a two year thing too.
