Rant: I wrote an apology letter to my neighbor and never sent it, now I'm glad

My neighbor's tree branch crashed into my car during a storm last month and I drafted this long apology to him for being mad about it. But I sat on it for a week and realized my anger was misplaced, the storm was just bad luck. Has anyone else written an apology you never sent and later felt better for holding back?

oh totally, i feel this. like the longer you sit on an apology the more you realize half the time it's more about making yourself feel better than the other person. i drafted a whole paragraph to my old roommate about how i was sorry for being short with them about leaving dishes in the sink, but then i remembered they literally never cleaned up after themselves and i was just tired of being the only one doing dishes. so i deleted the whole thing and just started leaving their dirty plates on their bed instead. way more effective tbh. and now we're good because they got the hint without me having to grovel over something that wasn't even my fault.

Oh man, @seth_singh20 that's kinda brilliant. A friend of mine had a similar thing with her neighbor who kept parking in her spot. She wrote this long apology note about being passive aggressive but then crumpled it up and just parked behind their car so they had to come ask her to move. Suddenly they started parking in their own spot.

Honestly @seth_singh20 you just made me realize I was wrong about always sending apologies.
