That Snap on tool truck mixup in Tulsa last spring still haunts me

I accidentally bought a $350 socket set that was meant for the mechanic next bay over, and now I just leave apology notes on his toolbox but he keeps ignoring them. Has anyone else ever taken the wrong order and been too embarrassed to fix it?

Richmond's shop had this exact same drama with a $600 scan tool a few years back. The guy who grabbed it ended up just leaving cash in the toolbox with a note, and it sorted itself out in a week. Your guy might not read the notes, so maybe just catch him at the coffee pot and hand him the socket set with a straight apology.

Respectfully disagree with the coffee pot approach. That makes it sound like the shop owner did something wrong when he's the one who got his stuff stolen. Handing over a socket set with a smile just tells the guy he can take whatever he wants and a quick apology makes it all go away. Leaving cash in a toolbox works because it forces the guy to make a choice with nobody watching, but a face to face apology is different. That gives the thief too much control over the situation. Better to keep the notes going or just have a blunt talk with management about who's grabbing tools without asking.
