The $40 blender that almost burned down my kitchen
I bought a cheap blender off Amazon for $40 because I wanted to make smoothies for a week. It caught fire on day three while blending frozen strawberries and I had to throw it out the back door. Anyone else have a kitchen appliance that gave up in a dramatic way?

Remember thinking the same thing honestly. Had a buddy who swore cheap blenders were fine and I used to say the same stuff about user error. But then my $50 blender started smoking like a chimney on week two just crushing ice for margaritas. The plastic base actually melted a little where the motor connects to the pitcher. Fire department told me those cheap motors don't have proper heat shielding and they'll keep running until something literally burns up. Yours sounds like it was working way too hard on those frozen strawberries and the thermal cutoff either failed or was never there. Not saying every cheap blender is a bomb but that one definitely was.

Was it really that bad though? I mean a $40 blender catching fire sounds more like a user error or a faulty outlet than a design flaw. Blenders usually have a thermal cut off so they just shut off before they get that hot. Maybe you had it running too long or the motor was clogged with something. I've had cheap appliances do weird stuff but never full on flames. Sounds like you got a real lemon or maybe the wiring was loose inside. What were you doing with it right before it caught fire?
