The apology I owe the old lady at the bus stop on Maple Street
I was running late for my shift at the post office last Tuesday and I rushed past this older woman sitting at the bus stop on Maple Street. She had dropped her grocery bag and things were rolling everywhere, but I just gave a quick sorry and kept walking. I didn't think much of it until I got home that night and realized my own mom would be in that same situation someday. It hit me hard how easy it is to ignore someone when you're in a hurry. I should have stopped and helped her pick up her apples and cans. Three days later I saw her again at the same stop and she was smiling, talking to another lady waiting there. I wanted to say sorry but I just froze and walked by again. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you were the person who should have stopped but didn't?

Oh man, same thing happened to me with an old guy at the grocery store and I still cringe thinking about it.

That part where you said "it hit me hard how easy it is to ignore someone when you're in a hurry" really got me... its like we're all just running around in our own little bubbles and we forget other people are even real sometimes. I've been noticing this more and more lately, how we treat strangers like background scenery instead of actual humans with their own lives and feelings. Its a weird thing about modern life I guess, we're all so focused on where we're going that we miss what's right in front of us. Like we've traded being present for being productive and somewhere along the way we lost the simple decency of stopping for someone who needs help. You messing up that day wasnt really about being a bad person, it was just a reminder that we all have blind spots when we're stressed or running late.
