The apology I wrote to my uncle after seeing his old workshop last fall
I drove out to his place in Fresno last October to grab a toolbox he left me. The whole shed still had his grease-stained calendar from 2011 and a coffee mug with his name scratched on it. I used to think he was careless with tools, always leaving wrenches on the floor. Then I saw the careful rows of drill bits sorted by size and the hand-written maintenance log for his truck. I wrote him a letter that night apologizing for every time I rolled my eyes at his methods. I never mailed it because he passed in December, but I want to know if anyone else found something that changed their view of a person after seeing their workspace.
