Wrote a letter to my high school art teacher, didn't send it

Stopped by the old art room at Lincoln High last week. Saw my ceramic vase still sitting on the shelf by the window. Ms. Rivera told me I'd never glaze it right. She was right back then but I finally figured it out 10 years later. Has anyone else gone back to an old classroom and seen something you made?

Man that vase sitting there all these years really hits hard. Ms. Rivera told me my coil pot looked like a sad snake and I never touched clay again until last year. It's wild how those old critiques stick with you even when you know better now. Good on you for finally getting the glaze right.

Is it really that serious though? Like yeah Ms. Rivera was a jerk but a sad snake coil pot is honestly kind of funny. You let one comment keep you from clay for years? That seems like a lot of energy to give a middle school art teacher. Most people forget what their teachers said by the time they graduate. Maybe it's more about you holding onto it than her being that impactful. Good you're back at it now but sounds like you might be overthinking the whole thing.

Listen teachers have way more power than they realize at that age. Its not about holding onto a grudge its about how those words hit you when you are 13 and still figuring out who you are. Ms. Rivera probably forgot that comment the same day but you carried it for years. That matters. Good for you for going back and proving her wrong. The vase on the shelf is proof you never really gave up.
