Appreciation post: Fixed a weird washing machine in a basement apartment last Friday

Got a call for a washer that would fill but not start the cycle. It was in this old basement unit in the West End. Last month, I would have just swapped the lid switch and called it a day. But this time, I remembered a tip from a guy at a trade meet three years ago about checking the wiring harness for corrosion on that specific model. Sure enough, found a green spot on a connector behind the control panel. Cleaned it up with some contact cleaner and it fired right up. Felt good to solve a tricky one without just throwing parts at it. Anyone else run into those sneaky harness issues on the older Maytags?

Love that you remembered that old tip and it actually paid off. Had the same exact thing happen with a dryer last year, kept chasing the thermal fuse before I found a crispy wire in the harness near the motor. Makes you wonder how many units get scrapped over a five minute cleaning job, you know?

Right? I swear half the appliances in landfills just need a good vacuum and maybe a new wire!

Ugh, so wasteful.
