Discovered that 80% of icemaker failures are just from a clogged water filter, not the unit itself

I read that stat in a manufacturer's service bulletin last night and it blew my mind because I've swapped out three perfectly good ice makers this year alone, has anyone else been wasting time on the wrong fix?

Flush the line first thing. Saves you every time with hard water.

Ugh I felt that one in my soul. Replaced a whole icemaker last month and found out the filter was just packed with gunk the whole time.

Yeah I learned that one the hard way too lol. Replaced a whole unit on a busy Friday only to watch the new one do the same thing. Now I always check the filter first and flush the line for like 30 seconds before I even pull the unit out. Those cheap sediment filters can look clean but they still clog up if you got hard water.

It's funny how something so simple can cause so much headache, isn't it? Reminds me of how people will replace a whole faucet before checking if the water shutoff valve is actually open. We all tend to jump to the complicated solution first. I've seen it with car trouble too, someone will replace the alternator but never think to check if the battery cable is just loose. It's like our brains are wired to think the problem is bigger than it really is. Meanwhile, fixing one small thing first could have saved you a whole afternoon and a lot of money.
