Had to choose between a $400 control board or a full fridge swap for a client in Mesa

Went with the board, but it failed again after 4 months and the customer was furious. Anyone have a solid rule for when to stop throwing parts at an old unit?

Nah, that half price rule is way too simple. Sometimes fixing the known part is cheaper and smarter than gambling on a whole new appliance with its own problems.

Oh man, that's the worst. My rule is basically if the repair cost hits half the price of a decent new unit, I'm done. That board failure is a classic sign the whole system is on its last legs. How old was the fridge anyway?

Actually, I've had good luck fixing older fridges with board issues, @victorh81. Sometimes it's just one bad part and the rest is solid. Age isn't always the best measure.
