Hit 150 dryer vent cleanings this year and saw something weird
I keep a tally on my clipboard and hit 150 dryer vent jobs around Phoenix since January. About 40 of those had no lint at all but a crushed flex duct behind the unit, which most folks never check until the dryer quits heating. How many of you pull the machine out first thing instead of snaking from the outside?
Pulling the machine out is the move, no question. Found a nest of crushed foil duct behind a dryer last month that looked fine from the roof vent, guy had been blowing lint into a dead end for who knows how long. Snaking from outside tells you almost nothing about what's happening behind the unit.
Man, I learned that lesson the hard way after fighting a clog from the roof for two hours like a total idiot. @jasonallen is dead right, all that outside work told me nothing about the crushed foil mess hiding behind my unit. Pull the machine, save yourself the headache, and pretend the roof vent doesn't exist.
