Overheard a guy at the hardware store telling his buddy to just 'whack the side of the dryer' when it squeaks. Made me think about the bad advice floating around.

Wait, doesn't that just loosen the drum bearings over time? I've heard it's better to find where the squeak is actually coming from first.

I thought that too until my belt snapped.

Honestly that whack-it method has worked for me for years. Amy_anderson might be overthinking it, sometimes you just need to jostle a belt back into place.

Yeah, "jostle a belt back into place" is usually fine. But taylorshah's point about a belt snapping is a real risk. Sometimes that whack just speeds up the wear.
