Rant: I thought using a dab of petroleum jelly on a seized dryer drum roller shaft was a terrible idea until a stubborn Kenmore unit in my garage proved me wrong.
After fighting with it for an hour and nearly ordering the whole assembly, I tried the jelly trick on the center post, let it sit overnight, and the roller spun free the next morning, saving a $40 part and a ton of time, so has anyone else found a weird lube that actually works on appliances?

Ever try bar soap on a sticky window track? I had a patio door that wouldn't budge, rubbed a dry bar of Ivory on the track, and it slides like new now. Sometimes the simple stuff in the house just works.

Simple stuff" can also mean messy soap gunk later though.

Used a pencil on a squeaky fridge hinge once. Just rubbed the graphite tip all over the pin. Quieted it right down and it lasted for years.
