Rant: the crud under a fridge after 6 years in a rental near Toledo
Pulled a fridge out of a rental unit last Thursday, six years of tenants never once cleaning behind it. The condenser coils were packed solid with pet hair and dust, looked like a felt blanket. Coils got a good brush and vacuum, amp draw fell from 1.9 to 1.2, and the thing cycled way less. Landlord asked why it kept tripping the breaker, and I just pointed at the hair pile. How often do you all actually pull the unit to clean coils, or do you just tell the customer and move on?
Who actually remembers to pull the fridge out and vacuum the coils? I pat myself on the back for changing the furnace filter and then forget the fridge exists for like three years straight. Then I finally yank it out and find a dust bunny big enough to have a name and a social life. That felt blanket you described is exactly what mine looked like, except mine also had a lost fork back there somehow. Good on you for catching the breaker thing before it turned into a service call.
