Rant: The Tuesday that made me swear off same-day dryer service calls for good

Last month I got a call from a lady in Akron whose dryer was squealing like a stuck pig. She begged me to come same day because she had a wedding dress hanging in it, which I still dont understand. I drove 45 minutes in traffic, replaced the idler pulley for 80 bucks in parts, and the drum belt snapped as soon as I powered it up. Turns out the previous guy had installed the belt wrong, so the drum was rubbing metal to metal. I spent another two hours fixing that mess for the same flat fee, and she tipped me a crumpled 5 dollar bill. That whole day I had three more urgent calls stack up, and by evening I was eating cold gas station pizza in my van. I know some guys love the rush of emergency calls, but Ive started telling people to wait a day so I can bring the right parts and actually breathe. Has anyone else had a same-day job turn into a nightmare that ate your whole afternoon? What do you tell customers when you need to reschedule for a better fix?

Emergency calls are always a gamble, but that one sounds like a triple loss. I just tell people straight up that rushing a repair usually costs them more in the long run, so waiting a day gets them a proper fix the first time.
