Spent $300 on a fancy refrigerant scale that broke in a month

The digital screen just went blank, and the company wants another $150 for a repair. Anyone know a good, tough scale that can handle being in a truck all day?

Ever check if your truck's power port is frying it?

People forget about voltage spikes from the alternator when the engine starts. That initial surge can be way over the 12 volts your charger expects. Ever plug your phone in right as you turn the key and notice it acts weird? That's the port giving it a bad jolt before everything settles down.

Kimr74 has a good point about the power port. Those cheap cigarette lighter plugs are terrible for sensitive gear. Get a good surge protector for your truck's 12V system, or just run the scale off its own batteries. Look for an industrial brand like General or Ritchie, they build them for job site abuse.
