Sticking with wire nut connections over push-in connectors after a call back in Phoenix

Had a dryer that kept tripping the breaker last summer, and the push-in connector was half melted from a loose bite. I mean, sure, push-ins are faster, but I'll take the extra 30 seconds to twist and tape rather than deal with a fried terminal again. Anyone else had a push-in fail on a high draw appliance?

That melted connector sound familiar man. Did you notice it was a cheap push-in or one of the branded ones like Wago that melted?

Wait, didn't you use to be all about those push-ins like a year ago? I remember you defending them in that HVAC thread. Then that Phoenix call changed your mind too, didn't it? @the_elliot, it wasn't even a cheap brand - it was a supposed "heavy duty" push-in that was supposed to handle 30 amps. Thing literally crumbled when I pried it off. Now I'm back to twisting wires tight and throwing a wire nut on top, plus a wrap of tape for high draw stuff like dryers and AC units. Its way more secure even if it takes me an extra minute to do right. I still use push-ins for light switches and outlets but never again for anything that pulls serious power.

Extra 30 seconds" is more like an extra minute when you factor in the redo.
