That whole-house surge protector saved my bacon in a Tulsa mall job

Last spring I was swapping a fridge compressor in a kitchen unit at Woodland Hills Mall and the main panel took a hit from a lightning strike two blocks away. The surge protector I put in six months earlier took the blast and the new board survived, but the store next door lost three units to the same surge. Anyone else adding these as a standard upsell on every commercial call now?

Honestly, most of the time that protector is just eating up labor and parts for a problem that never happens. You got lucky once and are gonna sell a bunch of these to people who never see a single surge, and then they're gonna think you're just padding the invoice.
